Scotch-Irish
in the Virginia Highlands

The migration of the Scotch-Irish down the Valley of Virginia to the Virginia Highlands began in the 1740s. In the period between the French and Indian War and the American Revolution, the Scotch-Irish populated what was then Augusta County, Virginia. Many Americans of Scotch-Irish descent can trace their family to this area of Virginia.
